A blog about the restoration, remodel and renovation of a 1929 Chicago-style brick bungalow

Cautiously Optimistic

We planted the Arborvitae last night (photos to come).

We also bought dogwood shrubs while we were at Lurvey’s but ran out of time (and sunlight) last night, so we’ll plant those tonight in front of the “arbs” as they were called at the nursery. We ended up with the variegated leaf (green and white), and with its bright red stems it’ll look great in front of the arbs.

There are a couple of other shrubs that I want to plant, but haven’t found the variety I want at the two closest nurseries. We have a loose idea of what we want to do in the garden, but I should probably sketch a garden plan on paper to get a better idea of what we’ll really need. We’ll have to take a drive to the outskirts of Chicago for many of the native plants we want so maybe we can get everything we want from the same place.
