Yes, We’re Still in the Bathroom

You may be wondering when it will ever end — when will they just finish their frickin’ bathroom and move on with their lives?

By this time next week, we hope to do just that.

But for now, we’re still in the grout stage. This photo was taken earlier this week with just the back shower wall grouted. It’s hard to tell, but we’re using Dove Gray which will go nicely with both the subway tile and the travertine.

Since then we’ve put in a couple more evenings’ worth of work and have three walls finished. When we first began, I was filled with trepidation, but I think we’ve found our groove and it’s moving along pretty well. None of the dreaded “grout haze”, so far at least.

Hopefully we’ll spend another exciting Friday night finishing up the grout on the subway tile and then sealing the floors (travertine, like any other natural stone, should be sealed once a year). Sealing could be done before or after grouting, and we felt that it might add a little more protection to the surface if we seal it before grout.

The bathroom cabinets arrived on schedule and are beautiful. They are currently in the “flex” room waiting to be installed.

Now that the tiling is nearing completion, I called the contractor to schedule the finish work on the plumbing. He also has a couple more things to do, like install the dryer vent. They’ll be back on Tuesday, hopefully just for the day.

Speaking of the dryer, I took advantage of Abt’s anniversary sale and ordered our washer and dryer. Their prices on appliances are always good, but it was a little bit lower (sale ends October 4th if you’re in the market for new electronics or appliances). With our Abt credit card, we typically receive 12 months of free financing, however we received a postcard that offered 18-month free financing on purchases during Pete’s birthday month. Bonus!

Purchasing the washer/dryer means that our laundry room needs some attention as soon as the bathroom is complete. Off I went to purchase flooring, but that’s something for another post.

Right now, it’s time to get some work done!
