Busted!

January 28, 2011

I’m interrupting this extended break to announce that yes, just as I suspected it would happen one day, the PO (Hi D!) found the blog! (Of course this was back in November right when I was debating about whether or not to continue the blog and I’m just getting around to announcing it now. Oh well.)

But it’s all good—he already knows how I feel about the bathroom, and likewise, I don’t think he’s crazy about my wall color choices, among other things. Like I said before, we haven’t held back on snide remarks to each other about our “decorating” choices, but I’m certainly grateful for many other things he did, like updating the electrical panel, tuckpointing, and installing central AC, as well as being a good neighbor for so many years when we lived down the street!

I’ve been gearing up to write some new posts, mainly in the hopes that it will help motivate me to start a new house project. At the very least I need to come up with some goals for 2011. So if anyone is still reading this, stay tuned, and thanks for sticking with me!

My wife and I were busted by our PO who was mortified we had painted over the Pepto Bismol pink walls in the living room! As she toured the house the sort of tsk tsk’ed as she went from room to room. It was really sort of comical to my wife and I.

Keep up the blogging and as far as projects go, look for something simple that is well within your comfort range. Find something that you can start and complete in a short amount of time. I always find that the little projects can be just as satisfying as the big ones. Add in the instant gratification aspect and you will be inspired to keep moving forward.

Agreed — I love cool old houses and everything that goes into restoring and renewing them, but my husband and I had an opportunity to build new (in our ideal 1960s neighborhood) that we could not pass up, so we’re pretty much limited to small projects, and they’re good, too.

Can’t wait to read more! (BTW, thanks for your help earlier today!)

Damon: at least my PO acknowledges that it’s our house now and never expected us to keep things as is. I can’t imagine living with a Pepto Bismol pink living room for one second!

The projects, both large and small, will keep moving forward because it makes me crazy to have them on the To Do list for too long. But it’s also nice to take a break once in a while.

Devon: I fixed the quotes. Sometimes browsers don’t properly recognize them.

Thanks to both for your encouragement! :)

Hi,
I have been visiting your blog for over a year now. I love CHicago bungalows, but no longer reside in Chicago. I did read the post about the PO along time ago and feel that he really had no affinity for the house, in spite of having grown up there.
Also, there is no accounting for taste and of course, it is no longer his house, he didnt want it anymore!

I work in neighborhood revitilzation and have been involved in rehabbing houses for many years, yours is a great example of what someone who cares can do. Don’t give the PO a second thought.

Cheers, (love the martini glass windows)
John

Thanks John! The PO actually did regret removing a few original things in the house, like the kitchen pantry, but yes, IMHO I think I have a better sense of how a bungalow should look. :)

I was more concerned about what I may have written and didn’t want to insult him or hurt his feelings, because we are still in contact and occasionally get together.

Anyway, thanks again for reading and for your kind comments!

I’m still here…despite my own lack of projects and posts on my blog currently…but machinations are in the works… :)

You’re one of the few “others” around here that has a frequently updated blog (comparatively) with a Chicago-style bungalow…so I have to keep checking back to see what’s new. Hopefully I’ll have some new things to share sooner than later…and an update similar to yours, maybe.

One can hope…after we dig out of the 20 inches of snow. :)
