Günter’s Progress

May 5, 2010

So far, so good.

I brought Günter home from the vet a week ago last Friday, and he has been much, much better. He has been playing, eating and acting normal.

I decided against surgery, so the only course of treatment is prednisone, which hopefully will keep his appetite strong for a while. How long it will last is anybody’s guess, but that’s how life goes, isn’t it?

If there’s anything good about this, it’s that it keeps me focused on enjoying whatever time left we have with our little pet.

It sounds wild and crazy, what about trying an all natural diet, nothing canned? There are so many stories about chemicals and other junk in pet food these days, I wonder if switching diet to something more au naturale would benefit our pets? Diseases cannot grow in highly alkaline systems and grow and prosper in highly acidic bodies. I know it sounds crazy, what about feeding Gunter foods high in alkaline foods.

I know my cat Bisou would give me problems… he is STILL pissed off months later after “Sheba” cat food was no longer manufactured. We bought what we could, but have run out now. Maybe its time I switch to natural foods and see if he will eat that.

Much good luck and best wishes! He is a cute boy!

Good luck Guenter! Our cat died last night suddenly (we think it was a stroke). We knew he had diabetes, and opted not to treat him. I’m glad he didn’t suffer too much. We changed his food, trying to help him with the diabetes, and I think it may have made it worse. Cats are carnivores, but most cat food has vegetables in it too. It was really unexpected.

I am glad he is feeling better. I certainly understand not wanting to do a surgery that may or may not help and keep him comfy and happy with what time he has left. I agree that this is the hard part of pet ownership…and people that don’t have pets don’t understand the strong attachment we have to them. I hope he remains happy and healthy for a good long while.

Thanks everyone. As for trying natural foods, I’m afraid nothing is going to reverse the disease at this point — it’s a type of cancer that’s only going to get worse. I agree with Derek, cats are carnivores, unlike people, and even if I tried to give him organic meat meant for human consumption he wouldn’t eat it. He has always refused to eat people food: no tuna, no cheese, nothing. His brother was the same way, which was great because I never had to worry about cats jumping on the kitchen counter or begging for food.
