The List

January 3, 2008

Okay, now that I’m all organized, it’s time to get down to The List for 2008. But first, let’s take a look at what we accomplished in 2007:

GENERAL
Bought bungalow
Sold previous house (woo hoo!)
Helped PO move out (no easy feat!)
Had hardwood floors refinished
Moved in
Unpacked
Had windows and molding stripped, restored and refinished

BASEMENT
Removed mold/demo’d bathroom
Eliminated cat pee smell
Painted and decorated basement
Had windows stripped and reglazed
Primed and painted windows and storms
Weatherstripped windows

BATHROOM
Mounted bathroom cabinet for add’l storage

KITCHEN
Painted kitchen
Painted tile backsplash
Had window/door molding replaced to match rest of house
Replaced dishwasher

LIVING ROOM
Bought fabulous sofa
Made a decision on and ordered window coverings

DINING ROOM
Made a decision on and ordered window coverings

MASTER BEDROOM
Installed ceiling fan

FAMILY ROOM
Bought Media cabinet

GARDEN/OUTDOOR
Tore down cyclone fence next to alley
Transplanted token prairie plants from previous garden
Gave up on transplanting more plants
Installed gutter screens
Re-tarred/sealed gap between sidewalk and house

Considering we moved in at the end of July, I don’t think that’s too bad, huh? Yes, we did hire out for a few things (hardwood floors and window restoration), but I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat. We have plenty of things left to do in this house, and I would like to enjoy living in a beautiful house sooner rather than later. Stripping, reglazing and refinishing windows would take us years to do ourselves with the free time we have.

Now on to 2008! There are going to be lots of little projects sprinkled in here, but this is ideally and in general what we’d like to accomplish this year:

Build Master Suite in unfinished attic space
Renovate Kitchen and add a Mudroom
Patch and repair plaster walls on first floor
Paint paint paint!
Organize garage
Plan and start prairie garden

Seems a little daunting, but once we get over some hurdles hopefully it will start to fall into place.

You should totally add your “finished projects” list to the sidebar on your site here, like I do…not because “everyone is doing it,” but because, let me tell you, on those days when you feel like you’re getting little accomplished, it’s always helpful to go to your blog and read your list of things done — it helps reaffirm that, yes, you’re making progress, even during those slower times. Just a thought… :)

Good suggestion—I’ve thought about adding a permanent Before/After page too, so instead of a sidebar I think I’ll just add Finished Projects as a separate page. It does help to see what you’ve accomplished instead of always looking at what’s left to do!
